When Kia showcase a new range of EcoDynamics engines at today’s Paris Motor Show, it confirms our initial thoughts, that Hyundai will also unveil a Blue Drive ix20.
Hyundai announced a three engine lineup when it gave us a glimpse of its new b-segment people carrier prior to today’s Paris event. As well as two petrol units Hyundai announced the ix20 would be fitted with a 1.4 diesel producing 89 bhp, the same engine used by Kia in its Venga, and a car already built by Hyundai at its European factory.
Today’s unveiling will show a Venga, which goes into production shortly, with a new ‘U2′ family 1.4-litre diesel engine producing 75PS and only 114 g/km of CO2. This is the same engine announced by Hyundai earlier this year and which is pencilled in for its i20.
The new engine uses a low-friction engine oil, special low-torque taper roller bearings in the transmission and low-rolling resistance, high pressure tyres help to reduce CO2 emissions to 114 g/km. It will also be aided by Hyundai’s Idle Stop & Go (ISG) which automatically switches off and then restarts the engine in congested city driving.
Expect to see the Hyundai ix20 Blue Drive today when the Korean maker also announce a facelift i10 with a new 1.0-litre engine with CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km. Hyundai’s Paris show press conference will take place at 16:15 (CET) on Thursday 30th September.
