ix20 won’t be US bound

Lots of blogs and websites are reporting that despite next weeks Paris unveiling of the new ix20, the vehicle won’t be seen on US roads anytime soon. Well at least not under the ‘i’ nomenclature.

ix20-i

The problem arises from a trademark by US auto giant Infiniti which owns the patent for use of the letter ‘i’ on its vehicles. This goes someway to explaining why Hyundai renamed the ix35 the Tucson for its US launch.

The Tucson was already established in the US, and like it’s European counter part, was replaced by the ix35 making things a little less complicated. As the ix20 is an all new vehicle there’s no direct replacement in the US. So the question arises. If the ix20 did reach US shores what would Hyundai call it?
